App Store are the only distribution channels for  apps to be discovered by mobile consumers. Google Play and Apple’s App Store, Microsoft and Blackberry are the leading app distribution channels but there are lot's of third party app distribution and discovery channels. In the near future you 'll see players like Vodafone, Orange, O2 and other entering into this space with a platform for app developers to distribute their apps.

What is an App Store?
An app store (application store) is an online portal through which software programs are made available for procurement and download.

Who owns App Stores?
All major mobile operating system vendors, including Apple, Google, BlackBerry and Microsoft, run their own app stores, which gives them control over the software available on their respective platforms.

Who are called Third Pary App Stores? 
Amazon Appstore for Android and Cydia for jailbroken iOS Apple devices.
