Ben Mathias named India head for Temasek's VC arm Vertex

Vertex Ventures, the venture capital arm of Singapore state investment firm Temasek Holdings, has appointed Ben Mathias as managing director and head of India operations, according to a press release. Mathias takes over from Ajay Lakhotia, who quit Vertex last month to float his own venture.

In his new role Mathias will manage Vertex India's portfolio and will continue the firm’s strategy of investing in companies in digital consumer, enterprise software and healthcare.

"I am delighted to be a part of the Vertex team. We are aligned in our ambition to build great companies, not just in India but beyond India as well. While my key focus remains in India for now, I will be part of the Vertex team covering India, Southeast Asia and Taiwan," Mathis was quoted as stating in a press release.

The move comes during a time when technology-focused, early-stage investments in the country continues to break new grounds in terms of value and volume, having already crossed a billion dollars in investment in 2015.
