Hotstar (Star India's Video streaming service) has begun its international expansion by entering the US, UK, Canada, South Africa, Germany, Malaysia and Singapore markets among others, reports Television Post. Earlier users outside India who visited Hotstar’s website were redirected to Star TV’s local websites.
After the global launch, users can watch all of Hotstar’s original content, which includes ‘On Air with AIB’ and ‘Iss Pyar Ko Kya Naam Doon Ek Jashn’. They can also view content for which Hotstar has the digital rights to show in other countries.
In the US, the average content consumption per day is close to six hours while in India, it is three hours. The main reason why it's so high in the US is that there are multi-TV homes there and everyone watches stuff according to individual choice. In India, we still have a majority of single-TV homes, and television viewing is not an individual exercise- said COO Sanjay Gupta to a national media.
